DIALOGOS is an ERASMUS+ programme which aims to train native speakers of Languages of Lesser Diffusion (LLD) in Public Service Interpreting and Translating (PSIT) and to develop training modules and educational material addressed primarily to this audience. The main goal of the programme is to address the communication barriers of migrants, specifically those who speak LLD in receiving countries, such as Greece, and in which there is a lack of qualified public service translating and interpreting professionals.

Audiovisual translation generally aims to enable the transfer of linguistic meaning and minimise loss as films circulate across borders. But what if, actually, films gain in translation? In my talk, I will question the economy of “translation loss” and will reflect specifically on subtitling as a practice through which films expand and transform. Drawing on Antoine Berman’s philosophy of translation as the experience of language, I will argue that we need to move beyond the commercial logic of audiovisual translation as meaning transfer and embrace the expansive and transformative potential of film translation

In the era of machine translation, AI and automatic text generation, demarcating the role of aspiring language professionals poses many challenges. In this context, the challenge lies perhaps mainly in the perceived role and contribution of language service providers. This seminar will discuss some possible aspects and strategies of language service provision which may also be attractive to (future) students in programmes of applied linguistics and translation, intercultural communication or journalism studies.
One aspect concerns the interlingual rendering of creative content with a view to transferring similar (degrees of) impact from a source language text and culture to a target context by means of transcreation (cf. Katan 2021; Carreira 2022, 2023; Díaz-Millón and Olvera-Lobo 2023). Transcreation has typically been discussed in the context of marketing and advertising (Pedersen 2014). Yet, it may also be found in other contexts, such as that of journalistic translation or transediting (Stetting 1989; cf. also Valdeon 2010, 2014), where impactful interlinguistic and intercultural renderings of metaphors, neologisms and ad-hoc new word creations, and notably headlines can generate the impact to sell local news in foreign target cultures. We will look at instances where these three aspects were studied in applied language students’ transediting of journalistic texts.
Apart from sections prone to a transcreative approach, journalistic transediting also relies on writers’ ability to summarize source text content conceptually to relevant target texts. Typically, in journalistic practice, this entails multiple source texts being integrated into a single target text which then, ideally, provides a relevant narrative to the target culture readers (cf. van Doorslaer 2012; Bassnett 2005; Bielsa and Bassnett 2009). The target text narrative then derives from the coherently integrated content from the different source texts. Added value in language service provision and student training may be found in such integrated coherent narratives based on multiple sources. Possible avenues to train students to produce coherent and credible narratives on this basis will be discussed in terms of didactic scaffolding opportunities (cf. also Calvo 2015; Morón and Elisa Calvo 2018) and didactic support by means of AI-generated text.

Το CLARIN:EL είναι η εθνική Υποδομή Γλωσσικών πόρων και Τεχνολογιών στην Ελλάδα. Μέσω της Ερευνητικής Υποδομής CLARIN:EL συγκεντρώνονται, τεκμηριώνονται, συντηρούνται και διαμοιράζονται ψηφιακοί γλωσσικοί πόροι, εργαλεία γλωσσικής τεχνολογίας καθώς και πιστοποιημένες διαδικτυακές υπηρεσίες γλωσσικής επεξεργασίας.
Στόχος της συνολικής έρευνας είναι βελτίωση των συνθηκών στα μεταφραστικά επαγγέλματα.
Για να εξασφαλίσει τον συντονισμό της ελληνικής ορολογίας που χρησιμοποιείται στα κείμενα της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή ανέλαβε πρωτοβουλία για την ίδρυση και λειτουργία ενός δικτύου ορολογικής υποστήριξης των Υπηρεσιών Ελληνικής Μετάφρασης των θεσμικών οργάνων της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης αλλά και γενικότερα των μεταφραστικών εργασιών και της δημόσιας διοίκησης σε Ελλάδα και Κύπρο.

Η υποδομή ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝΙΣ έχει ως αποστολή τη δημιουργία και λειτουργία ενός περιβάλλοντος υπηρεσιών, πόρων, εκπαίδευσης και υποστήριξης, το οποίο θα επιτρέπει την ολοκληρωμένη πρόσβαση και αξιοποίηση συλλογών ψηφιακών πόρων των ανθρωπιστικών επιστημών και της γλωσσικής τεχνολογίας για ερευνητικούς, εκπαιδευτικούς, αλλά και παραγωγικούς σκοπούς, καθώς και τον εμπλουτισμό αυτών και την παραγωγή και ενσωμάτωση νέων. Δημιουργείται από την ένωση των προϋπαρχουσών υποδομών clarin:el, Εθνικού Δικτύου Γλωσσικής Τεχνολογίας, και DARIAH-GR/ΔΥΑΣ, Εθνικού Δικτύου Ψηφιακών Υποδομών για τις Ανθρωπιστικές Επιστήμες, οι οποίες και συμμετέχουν από ελληνικής πλευράς στις αντίστοιχες ευρωπαϊκές ερευνητικές υποδομές ESFRI CLARIN και DARIAH.
Το TRAMIG είναι ένα πρόγραμμα ERASMUS+ που έχει ως στόχο την επιμόρφωση εκπαιδευτών στο αντικείμενο της κοινοτικής διερμηνείας και της διαπολιτισμικής μεσολάβησης. Απώτερος στόχος του προγράμματος είναι να ενισχύσει την επιτυχή ενσωμάτωση των νεοαφιχθέντων μεταναστών στο γλωσσικό και οικονομικό γίγνεσθαι των χωρών υποδοχής τους. Ο στόχος αυτός αναμένεται να επιτευχθεί επιτρέποντάς τους να εργάζονται αυτόνομα ως κοινοτικοί διερμηνείς και διαπολιτισμικοί μεσολαβητές, ειδικότερα σε περιβάλλοντα υπηρεσιών υγείας, είτε να εργάζονται υπό καθοδήγηση σε προγράμματα επιμόρφωσης στην κοινοτική διερμηνεία και τη διαπολιτισμική μεσολάβηση.
Το πρόγραμμα έχει ως στόχο τη θεωρητική και πρακτική κατάρτιση των εκπαιδευόμενων στον υπερτιτλισμό θεατρικών έργων.
Στόχος του σεμιναρίου ήταν να θέσει στην υπηρεσία των εκπαιδευομένων τις βασικές θεωρητικές γνώσεις της Υπολογιστικής Γλωσσολογίας, σε συνδυασμό με επιμέρους κλάδους της Γλωσσολογίας, αποσκοπώντας στην απόκτηση των απαραίτητων γνώσεων για την επίτευξη ενός σύγχρονου και αποτελεσματικού τρόπου διδασκαλίας.
